Celtel’s FYR fire up Calabar with Faze, Olu Maintain
May 29, 2008
Youths residents in Calabar, the fast growing hub of entertainment in the South South Region, was at the weekend fired up by part of Celtel Nigeria’s “Find Your Rhythm” squad, Faze, Olu Maintain, and other artistes.
The star artistes who strolled into the city on Friday, thrilled youths at the Pinnacle Club of Mirage Hotel, Calabar, during the mobile company’s music fun train, “Find Your Rhythm” stopover in the capital of Cross Rivers State.
“Find Your Rhythm” is a Celtel live in-bar musical show in select locations which seeks to delight youths across the country. The Concert features a cream of top Nigeria music artistes such as 9ice, P-Square, Timaya, Olu Maintain, Baba Dee, X-Project, Roof Top MCs, Ekwe, Don Jazzy and the Mo’Hits crew, among others.
The sensational dance group, “Dance Na the Main Thing” (DNMT) paved the way for the flood of amusement that was to come on the cold but lively evening with their fantastic bouncy dance steps.
Clad in their traditional costume, the group thrilled the audience to no end with their awe-inspiring choreographic performance of P-Square, “Do Me” and other songs.
Next to come was Mr. Kolomental, Faze, whose entrance into the Club was heralded by a thunderous applause by a highly appreciative audience. Dressed in a light brown designer jacket, black trousers, and a red shirt and red shoe to complement, the dreadlocked artiste literally set the venue on fire with a masterful rendition of songs from his Independent album.
Faze’s soulful performance was one of the major high points of the evening, “hitting” the audience hard with some of his big hit tracks such as “If You Love Me”, “Tatoo Girls” and “Kpo Kpo Di Kpo”. The approving crowd sang and danced to each track as wave and waves of excitement swept through the expansive length and breadth of the club.
Just when the audience thought the best on the night has been served; Faze switched gear, and sang his most successful hit track, Kolomental, sending the crowd into wild season of excitement.
Faze’s performance was followed by that of the Yahooze king, Olu Maintain, whose trade mark dancing steps lured the audience to step into the dance floor again.
Sporting a radiant outfit that most appropriately tell the story of the success of his hit track, Yahooze, the star who started out with former Hip-Pop group, Maintain, made a grand entry to into the now excitement charged hall to the delight of the audience, who appeared to have been waiting for decades for the moment.
Olu Maintain lived up to his high rating, giving his Calabar fans pure music pleasure with tunes such as “I Catch Cold,” “Fatima” “Yahooze” and others. His performance reached a crescendo when he allowed them to get a feel of him. The fans, both local and foreigners, swamped him, necessitating his bodyguards carrying him shoulder high to avoid being mobbed by the enthusiastic crowd.
Speaking about the musical Show, Head of Brands and Communication Division, Celtel, Adetola Macgregor said “Find Your Rhythm” campaign was introduced to bring the Nigerian’s prominent artistes closer to the people.
She said Celtel is using the Music platform to identify with the lifestyle of the people, connect with them where they play and give them the opportunity to meet their favourite artistes.
The musical Show has been held in Jos, Makurdi, and Abuja.
