The trial of former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole at an Abuja Federal High Court failed to begin yesterday as earlier scheduled to begin before yesterday did not go on as both counsel in the matter wrote to the court asking for an adjournment.
Prosecuting counsel, Festus Keyamo and Bankole’s counsel Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN) asked for adjournment in a letter to the court, saying that they are both in London and have agreed to return to court on February 22.
The former speaker lost a bid to quash a 16-count charge of contract fraud amounting to N894 million (not N9 billion as earlier reported) proffered against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
