The Spinal Cord Injuries Association of Nigeria (SCIAN) sporting activities on June 11, 2008, received a major financial boost with the decision of De-United Foods Industries, makers of Indomie Instant Noodles to lend its support to its activities.

Skye Bank Updates Healthcare Delivery in Niger State

As a way of giving back to its host community, Skye Bank Plc has put smiles in the mouth of the people of Niger State by supplying its General Hospital in Minna with quality medical equipments and renovating the Children’s Wing of the hospital. 

Mr. Akinsola Akinfemiwa, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the bank, said the service rendered to the state is part of Skye Bank’s corporate social responsibilities. He said will continue to deliver quality services to the people of the state. 

Akinfemiwa added that other plans for the people of the state, is to invest a housing development and mortgage, open more branches and establish more Automated Teller Machines (ATM) to reduce time spent by customers. 

Dr. Muazu Babangida, Governor of Niger State, lauded the bank for its gesture towards the betterment of health delivery in the state. He said his Organisation will partner the Bank for the development of the state and called on other corporate organisations to emulate Skye Bank. 

However, Dr. Isah Yahaya, Commissioner for Health, Niger state, thanked Skye Bank and promised that the supplies would be used well by the Niger State Ministry of Health.  

Nigeria:Oceanic HMO Partners Ekiti State on Health Insurance

Oceanic Health Management Limited is set to partner with the Government of Ekiti State on the implementation of the formal sector and community health insurance programme. The company in its quest to facilitate hitch-free access to efficient medical services across the nation took its proposal to the Ekiti State Government in Ado-Ekiti recently.

Representing Dr. (Mrs.) Cecilia Ibru, chairman Oceanic Insurance Group (OIG), Prince Lafor Olateru-Olagbegi, OIG’s managing director told the state’s deputy governor, Dr. Sikiru Tae Lawal that the funding of the programme would be contributory, an equivalent of 10 percent of the basic salary of the civil servants to be contributed by the Government while the employers contribute an equivalent of 5% of their basic salary.

Olateru-Olagbegi said the programme would ensure hitch-free access to medical services for employees of the state and the various local governments, and add value to the well-being and productivity of Ekiti State workers. Responding, the Deputy Governor thanked the company’s management for the proposal adding that it was in keeping with the administration’s plans to provide Ekiti citizens with access to excellent healthcare from the primary to tertiary level. “The Ekiti State government would be glad to partner with Oceanic Health’s laudable health insurance programme to ensure that our people are healthy enough to create the wealth that we need to move the state forward,” the deputy governor added.

Oceanic Health, which has since been licensed by the NHIS to operate as an Health Maintenance Organisation (HMO) is structured to provide health care through a network of reputable hospitals strategically located across Nigeria. These health care providers include primary, secondary and tertiary care institutions, amongst others.

In Ekiti State, Oceanic Health’s package will offer various benefits including: out patient care; prescribed generic drugs as contained in the National Essential Drug List; Diagnostic Tests as contained in the diagnostic test list; maternity care for up to four live births; preventive care including immunization, health education, family planning, ante-natal and post-natal care; and consultation with specialists.

Other benefits include: hospitalization in a standard ward for a defined number of days; eye examination and care excluding spectacles and contact lenses; range of prosthesis limited to the one manufactured in Nigeria; and preventive dental care and pain relief.

In addition to partnering with Ekiti State on the formal sector social health insurance programme, Oceanic Health also intends to help the state use health insurance as a social protection mechanism for often neglected groups including, residents of rural areas, orphans, retirees and unemployed, prison inmates, students of tertiary institutions, and urban self employed persons.

Oceanic Health’s community insurance programme is non-profit making and lays emphasis on providing platforms for upgrading primary health care centers, training community healthcare workers, and establishing structures for easy referrals to secondary healthcare facilities.

Essentially, Oceanic Health plans offer definitive medical benefits to employees and better financial planning of healthcare benefits for employers. The prepaid premium facilitates budgeting of healthcare costs and aids reduction in yearly medical costs with a guaranteed quality assurance mechanism. NHIS Endorses Oceanic Health Management

The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has licensed Oceanic Health Management Limited, a subsidiary of one of the leading financial institutions in Nigeria, Oceanic Bank, to commence operation as a Health Maintenance Organisation (HMO).

The limited liability company which has an authourised N100 million share capital was licensed and signed by the Executive Secretary of NHIS, Mr. M.B.W. Dogo-Muhammad on the 6th of December 2007 with reference number; NHIS/OPS/408 under NHIS regulations.

However, Dr. Mrs. Cecilia Ibru, Chairman, Oceanic Health Management Limited, said Oceanic Health has partnered with insurance firms and health care Organisations locally and internationally to provide effective health services to employers and employees through a network of standard hospitals in Nigeria.

She said the health management would make available access to 24/7 medical counseling, health enlightenment campaigns in companies and organise preventive health programmes. She added that Oceanic Health offers a reduction in yearly medical cost for companies.

Medical experts in the country commended Oceanic Health for the initiative. They said the health management has got all it takes to perform excellently in its service delivery to families, workers and the country as a whole.

Evans Medical increases share capital base to 500m

In a move to modernize the operations of Evans medical Plc, its shareholders had on the 53rd Annual General Meeting approved the increase of its authorize share capital base from 250million to 500million by the creation of additional 500million ordinary shares of 50K each.

While addressing the shareholders during the recent AGM, the company’s chairman Mr. Safudeen Edu said the company has concluded arrangement to approach the Nigerian Stock Exchange to raise funds and enable it finance its expansion and modernization programme.

He said Evans Medical Plc would reconstruct its factory to the standard of the World Health Organisation which will be completed by the end of the 1st quarter of 2008.

The reconstruction will also give Evans a competitive advantage in the export of health care products from Nigeria.

According to the company’s record, there was increase in spending in marketing of the newly introduced products during 2006 financial year. Within the year under review, Evans Medical Plc improved in group sale revenue from N2.529million in 2005 to N2.908million in 2006.

Profit after tax stood at N86.7million in 2006 as against 14.2million in the preceding year.  

Premium Health Concludes Health Deal with Union Bank

As part of efforts to add more value and extend its services to more people, Premium Health Limited, a foremost health organisation has made known it’s just concluded deal to secure the health of staff of Union Bank of Nigeria.

Managing Director of the Organisation, Ladi Okuboyejo, disclosed that the deal with Union Bank extends to over 40000 of the bank’s staff, pensioners and dependants.

Ladi, a medical practitioner, who is also the president of the Guild of Medical Directors added that the health Organisation is on the move to include the oil and gas sector, religious groups, telecommunication industry, educational sector and other financial companies in its health contract.
