The Nigeria Boxing Board of Control has assured women’s heavyweight world champion Ijeoma Egbunine of its support in having her WBC title fight with America’s Gwendolyn O’Neil hold in Nigeria in April.
Egbunine, the number one-ranked female boxer in the world, holds the WBE, UBC and the WIBF titles, and is gunning for the vacant WBC title which was stripped off Laila Ali, daughter of boxing legend Mohammed Ali.
NBB of C President, Dr. Godwin Kanu, lamented the lack of finance to organise the fight last December, as earlier scheduled, but promised to assist the champ in making the fight happen.
