Carbits Automobile introduces online portal for procurement of spare parts in Nigeria

August 13, 2008 by ella

Carbits Automobile Parts and Accessory Procurement Company has introduced an electronic portal for people seeking to buy spare parts and accessories for their prized vehicles from the comfort of their homes and offices.

The Lagos-based firm said the opportunity was open to corporate organisations, individuals and automobile garages to guide against buying fake or substandard parts.

According to the firm’s Operations Manager, Ms Adeola Adebo, it is also to eliminate the pains and difficulties vehicle owners and most garages encounter when looking for genuine parts.

She spoke on Monday at the inauguration of the Carbits automotive parts’ procurement portal in Ikeja.

She warned, “Unlike in the previous automobile engineering, modern day vehicle parts were becoming more and more specific such that a particular part may not necessarily fit on two identical vehicles because of the uniqueness of a vehicle chassis number, which is mated to a chip.

“Where this is not the case, several variants of the same part may be available to suit different purposes. In other words, parts may be similar but not fixing the exact unit as replacement may mean compromising function and reliability.”

She also said that Carbits would be accessible to patrons, whose cars were not more than 10 years old and a select marquee including BMW, Mercedes Benz, Land Rover, Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche.

Adebo, who said that the firm was working with Fleet and Cosy Limited as its technical partners, and a number of professionals, explained that interested persons could visit the firm’s website to make their order.

“Also, a portal has been dedicated to parts’ procurement on the Carbits’ technical partner’s website,” she added.

She also said that Carbits was working out financing plans with notable banks towards ensuring the success of the scheme.

She said, “To place an order, a deposit of 75 per cent is required and the balance is paid on collection. On the other hand, patrons may pay 100 per cent outright where it is guaranteed by the bank.”

Fleet and Cosy Limited was established in September 1989 as a vehicle maintenance and repair service outfit for discerning motorists.
