Dr. Sulaiman L. Zubair (L), Chairman/Chief Medical Director, Asokoro District Hospital receiving the Baby Incubator and other medical equipments from Joseph Akintunde (R), Area Marketing Manager, DUFIL Prima Foods Plc., donated by the company at the hospital premises on Tuesday, June 09, 2009.
The Chairman/Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Asokoro District Hospital has commended DUFIL Prima Foods Plc, maker of Indomie Instant Noodles for its bold step towards ensuring a healthier society. According to the Chief Medical Director, the company’s benevolence is worthy of emulation.
Dr. Sulaiman Zubair, who made this commendation while receiving medical equipment worth millions of naira donated by Dufil Prima Foods Plc to Asokoro District Hospital in Abuja on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at the hospital premises, said the hospital is very happy with the leading noodles manufacturer for its generosity.
He said the hailed the company’s initiative to complement government efforts and expressed that the equipment will alleviate some of the challenges of the hospital and further improves its service delivery especially to the pediatric department.
“The hospital was originally design for the Asokoro district dwellers and is one of the few hospitals that provide top class quality healthcare service. However, patients come from different parts of the country to seek medical care beyond the available capacity so it’s a lot of pressure when you consider the current capacity.” He said.
Dr. Zubair admitted that although donations have been made by individuals and foundations to the hospital, “to my knowledge for now, there’s no other corporate organization that has done this similar gesture. They should emulate the practices of Indomie in donating meaningful equipments to hospitals.”
He appealed to the private sector to emulate the initiative as he explained that more social causes like this will reduce the social ills and improve standard of living.
In his reaction, Joseph Akintunde, Area Marketing Manager, Abuja, Dufil Prima Foods explained that ten hospitals across the country have been earmarked for the indomie Hospital Project which began in April. So far Massey Street Children’s Hospital, Lagos Island, and Adeoyo Maternity Hospital, Yemetu, Ibadan in Oyo State have been the beneficiaries with Asokoro District Hospital coming as the third.
Akintunde said that general hospitals and healthcare centres are the primary target for the initiative considering the unparallel huge influx of patients who represent a higher percentage of those who can’t afford exorbitant bills and the capacities of most general hospitals nationwide.
“We want to bring the Indomie brand closer in terms of health care to those who cannot genuinely afford medical bills and as a complement to government’s effort the initiative is centered on general hospitals rather than private hospitals.” He said.
He further explained that the initiative is not restricted to pediatrics only, however Asokoro District Hospital is chosen as a beneficiary because of the hospital’s unmatched reputation for caring for mothers and newborns in Abuja and wide.
The Indomie Hospital Project is a major initiative under the DUFIL Prima Foods Plc. CSR programs. Ten hospitals across the country have been earmarked as beneficiaries and the equipment donated includes Baby Incubator, Phototherapy Unit, Digital Baby Weighing Scales, Digital Thermometers, Blood Pressure Monitors, and Pediatrics Cuffs.
