Nokia, Siemens & Celtel in a N16.4bn Deal

Nokia LogoNokia/Siemens and Celtel, a major telecommunication network provider has signed a N16.4 billion contract to build 4,000km of Fibre Optic backbone infrastructure throughout Nigeria and supply the best microwave transmission equipment for Celtel to have the best IP technology.

The deal between Nokia/Siemen and Celtel when completed, will elevate Nigeria’s communication technology to the next generation thereby achieving the aim of the federal government to make Nigeria economy one of the first 20 by 2020.

The Director of Nokia-Siemens networks in Nigeria, Helmut Hochstetter, said the deal with Nokia-Siemens, shows that from its birth has been committed to enhancing the Nigerian telecommunication infrastructure.

Chief Executive Officer of Celtel in Nigeria, Mr. Bayo Ligali, said the contract would enhance Celtel infrastructure in the country and enable the provision of a better service with a wider coverage to their customers.

Ligali said it also represent the fulfillment of Zain Group (Celtel parent company) promises to contribute to Nigerian telecom towards the realisation of its 2020 economy.
