February 3, 2009 by Bunmi Awolusi

Determined to continuously provide its subscribers with a leading edge in telecommunications experience, Customer Care Operator of the year, Zain Nigeria, has announced the commencement of high speed mobile services using the 3G network.

The service, which went through rigorous and successful test-run in recent weeks on the Ericsson and Huawei platforms, offers customers access to the internet using any of the following 3G Mobile Data Card with a maximum speed of up to 1.8Mbps, GPRS/EDGE Modem and Data enabled mobile phones.

Speaking on the new service, Zain Nigeria ’s Head of Corporate Communications, Emeka Oparah , said the service opens a new horizon for the company’s customers to experience the latest innovations in telecoms specially designed to enhance their daily communication, economic and social needs.

He said the introduction of the unique service is timely because it comes at a time when much emphasis has tilted to ‘real-time’ advance mobility service and is structured to accommodate both mobile and Data card users.

Oparah said customers can now have a seamless flow of data transfer, including voice, broadband internet and multimedia services over a range of frequencies, with flexibility of usage to both GPRS/EDGE and 3G subscribers.

He added that plans are underway to increase the Data speed from its present 1.8 Mbps to 7.2 Mbps by the end of the year.

On activation, Zain subscribers can browse the internet, download music and video, access mobile friendly sites and do video call among many others.

The service is available on the pre-paid platform, but customers on the post-paid platform can also enjoy the services on purchase and activation of SIM card.

The service has been categorized to give users the option to choose their usage preference namely; Pay As You Use; Zain Day; Zain Lite; Zain Plus and Zain Max where the difference lies in the total number of bytes, hours of usage and cost.

One of the major advantages of Zain’s 3G services is its nation-wide availability, as customers across the length and breadth of the country can conveniently experience the high-wire service real-time, except for video calling which is currently available in Lagos , Abuja and Port Harcourt .

The launch of the service comes with a double, as subscribers stand a chance of owning an internet ready HP Laptop through the HP/Zain Data card bundle promotion financed by Diamond bank.

The promotion aimed at those who require laptops with internet browsing, allows customers to purchase HP Pavilion or HP Presario Laptops bundled with Zain Data card and free Data enabled SIM with installmental payment plan over a 12 month period from January 12 to April 12, 2009, through any Diamond Bank branch nationwide.

Zain 3G Data Card and Modem are available in all Zain shops in the country manned by experienced and dedicated sales and technical staff on hand to provide professional services and advise round the clock.

i want to bring to the awareness of this forum that Zain has stepped wrongly on the right of many Nigerian yet unknown to many.
Zain migrated all the sim card i bought to Zain joli from the usual prepaid status this make it difficult for me to use the sims for browsing through the Zain data card that i bought.
please good nigeria contribute to this so as to stop this service provider from cheating us in this country.
    thanks
