Indications emerged, Friday, that Imam Abubakar Shekau, the fugitive leader of extremist Islamist sect, Boko Haram was shot and wounded at a security check point earlier this year. Nigerian Tribune newspaper reports that Shekau who posed as a nomadic Fulani was shot in a gunfire that broke out when a vehicle conveying him and some other suspected terrorists was stopped by operatives of the Joint Task Force at a checkpoint. Military intelligence gathered that the wounded Shekau has since been ferried through one of the many porous borders to Gao, a city in northern Mali where he is believed to be hiding.
