Breaking: Dutch Court Orders Shell to Pay Compensation to Nigerian Farmer

According to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd and Royal Dutch Shell Plc, have been ordered to pay compensation to one Nigerian farmer for oil pollution which destroyed his farmland and deprived him of his livelihood. In the landmark case against the Anglo-Dutch firm brought by four Nigerian farmers and Friends of the Earth, the Court ruled that the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd was partially responsible for the pollution in the Niger Delta region.
