Statistics have revealed that 10.1 million Nigerian children dropped out of school in 2012. This was made known by the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, Alhaji Jibrin Paiko at a workshop organised by Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) on revamping adult literacy for sustainable development in the Niger Delta region. Paiko called for a national assessment of literacy practices, if Nigeria is to present a realistic account of its Universal Basic Education achievements by 2015. he further stated that aside the lack of access, infrastructures, teaching and learning materials, he said the greatest challenge facing education was inadequate funding by the three tiers of government.
