According to The Citizen newspaper, and for the first time in history of the country, Lagos State is set to launch a cable car mass urban transit system to ease the frequent traffic congestion experienced in the state. The plan is a result of a 30-year franchise agreement between Ropeways Transport Limited, the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) and the Lagos State government recently.The first phase of the project which is expected be fully completed and commissioned in 2015, will cover routes along Ijora – Iddo, Iddo – Adeniji; Apapa – Oluwole, Oluwole – Adeniji, Adeniji – Obalende, Obalende – Falomo, and Falomo – Victoria Island.
