On Wednesday, the Standard Organisation of Nigeria,SON, announced their decision in a press briefing with reporters to destroy about N2bn worth of inferior cables. According to Dr. Joseph Odumodu, the Director-General of SON, the decision was in accordance with the Federal Government’s no leniency campaign on eradicating and dissuading the importation of inferior products into the country, which as he mentioned, started in 2011.
The DG also added that the body was having a little encounter with storing the already seized products, since a lot had been impounded already. in his words, “We are preparing a report on the total value of substandard products that we impounded in 2012, but let me just say this that in the next two weeks, we will be destroying cables worth N2bn, and as a result of that, we don’t even have any space in our warehouses again.”
