A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member has been prosecuted and sentenced for electoral manipulation in Ondo state. This was revealed by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega at the INEC/civil society dialogue on plans and progress toward the 2015 elections. He also revealed that 200 of the 870,000 electoral offenders apprehended in the 2011 elections have been prosecuted. Speaking ahead of the 2015 elections, Jega revealed that the commission was ready to issue permanent electronic voters’ card that would be valid for 10 years. He further stated that the electronic voters’ card would eliminate electoral fraud and ensure credible and transparent polls as a result of the features on the electronic card, which included micro testing security, hologram, finger prints. According to him issuance of cards would begin in 2013.
