The Movement of the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, Saturday, warned of the country’s disintegration following the conviction of its leader and founder, Henry Okah, by a South African court for the 2010 Independence Day bombing in Abuja. In a statement released by the group, and obtained by SaharaReporters, MEND said that it will resume hostilities across Nigeria, and that the disintegration of Nigeria will start through the movement.

We need peace in Nigeria. We need our young men and women
to be employed. We need to build roads, Power and other critical infrastructure
that will support Nigeria’s economic growth and prosperity. This is not time to
destroy what we already have. Every son and daughter of Niger delta must
protect what we have in the region. I also urge the Government to listen to the
grievances of its people and see that they are addressed. Every Nigerian is
important. Nobody should be taking for granted. Let peace reign in Nigeria our
    country.
