On Monday, the Students of the Lagos State University, LASU went on a protest following the death of one of their colleagues known as Miss Hunjah Mausi. According to reports gathered at the protest, a commercial bus driver who was driving against traffic rules and at the same time driving frantically knocked down the lady who at the time was coming back from the post office beside the school on Saturday.
She was immediately rushed to the hospital, but was confirmed dead not long after her arrival. The incident sparked anger amongst the students and they immediately went on a protest which could have turned violent if not for the timely intervention of the Student Union Authorities.
The incident was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the school, Mr Stephen Adeleke who added that the Police had already arrested the driver of the commercial bus.
He also stated, ”
It is disheartening to experience such a loss. But we leave everything to God. We heard that she was crossing the road with her friends when the accident occurred.
“We are law-abiding citizens and do not want any form of protest. We sincerely sympathise with her family and hope that God will give them the fortitude to bear the loss. We also urge the students to bear the loss and avoid any form of crisis.”
