Akingbola: EFCC Yet To Contact Interpol – Daily Independent
November 10, 2009 by Bunmi Awolusi
Erastus Akingbola’s extradition from England is yet to get off the ground, as the International Police Organisation (Interpol) and the British police have not been formally informed, despite claims by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Akingbola escaped from Nigeria after his sack on August 14 as Intercontinental Bank Managing Director (MD). Other bank executives who were also fired have since been charged to court.
A source in the Justice Ministry in Abuja said all formalities on the extradition have been completed, “What we are waiting for is one or two diplomatic issues to be sorted out, and by the grace of God, that would be taken care of this week and (Akingbola) would soon be in Nigeria.”
However, Interpol riposted that there has not been any formal contact with the EFCC or the Justice Ministry.
