AC, Akinyemi, others task N’Assembly on Yar’Adua’s absence – The Guardian

February 8, 2010 by Bunmi Awolusi

The Action Congress (AC) and two Niger Delta groups have called for immediate handover of power to Vice President Goodluck Jonathan, charging Nigerians to stand against any attempt by individuals or groups to truncate the nation’s democracy.

Speaking through its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on the continued absence of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua from office, the AC urged the National Assembly to aid the democracy by immediately starting the process of amending Sections 144 and 145 of the constitution to remove any ambiguities and to also strip ministers who make up the Federal Executive Council (FEC) of the role of making key decisions on the President.

Mohammed, who spoke on the state of the nation at a press briefing, joined other individuals and groups to demand that the President should transmit a letter to the Senate and the House of Representatives that he is embarking on a medical vacation as a necessary pre-requisite for Vice President Jonathan to act as President.
