Amnesty: 32 Militant Leaders Meet Yar’Adua – The Guardian

August 8, 2009 by tim

True to his promise, President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua yesterday received the first batch of 32 leaders of militants in the Niger Delta at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja who took advantage of the amnesty proclaimed June 4 this year.

The 32 leaders were led by Mr Victor Ben Ebikabowei (alias General Boyloaf).

President Yar’Adua again explained that the essence of the amnesty is to “have peace and security in the Niger Delta states without which development will not be possible. We have reached a situation, as you know where even contractors are afraid to take contracts and execute works in the states. Peace, stability and security are necessary conditions for development and prosperity. So, we need this peace a lot in the Niger Delta States.
