Anambra 2010: Supreme Court affirms Soludo’s candidacy – Fixes Jan 14 for hearing on suit against him – Tribune
January 5, 2010 by Bunmi Awolusi
The Supreme Court, on Monday, affirmed the candidacy of Professor Chukwuma Soludo for the February 6, 2010 governorship election in Anambra, even as it fixed January 14 for another suit seeking to stop him as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) standard bearer.
A full panel of the court, led by Justice George Oguntade, held that its December 17, 2009 ruling, setting aside the ruling of the Court of Appeal, Abuja division, still subsisted.
The five-man panel re-affirmed its judgment after listening to a fresh application brought by Mr. Valentine Ozigbo, who led three others to institute the original suit to stop Soludo.
Ozigbo claimed in the fresh application that he was not given a fair hearing before the December 17 ruling was given, asking the apex court to reverse itself.
The application was adjourned till January 14 for hearing.
