Anambra: Court okays Soludo as PDP candidate – Dissolved exco refuses to leave office – Tribune

November 17, 2009 by Bunmi Awolusi

An Abuja high court, on Monday, lifted the judicial embargo on the candidature of Professor Chukwuma Soludo, as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) standard-bearer in the 2010 governorship election in Anambra State.

Justice Danlami Z. Senchi threw out a suit by Mr. Valentine Ozigboh; Mrs. Victoria Nwankwo; Mrs. Nkoli Imo and Mr. Ferdinand Okoye, PDP governorship aspirants in the state, against the selection of Soludo as the party’s candidate for the February 6, 2010 governorship election in the state.

Senchi had, on October 23, 2009, issued an ex parte order restraining the party from perfecting Soludo’s candidature with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), with the electoral body also stopped from recognising Soludo as a candidate in the election pending the determination of the suit challenging his selection by the party.

The plaintiffs complained that due process was not followed by the party in the nomination of the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as its gubernatorial candidate for the said election.
