Anti-Press bill will fail, says NPAN – The Guardian

President of the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association of Nigeria (NPAN), Chief Ajibola Ogunshola, says the move by the National Assembly to repeal the Nigerian Press Council Act and set up the Nigerian Press and Practice of Journalism Council, will hit the rock.
At a workshop organised to create awareness on the Press Ombudsman in Lagos on Tuesday, Ogunshola said it was a sad commentary that the promoters of the bill had failed to learn from history.
“What the colonialists tried to do but failed under the Newspaper Ordinance of 1903; what our politicians tried to do in 1964 but failed; and what the Buhari/Idiagbon regime and a succession of military dictatorships tried to do but all failed, is now being put forward again.
