The Army Council has confirmed the sentences passed on officers who were convicted by the General Court Marshal which tried the army personnel arraigned before it for mutiny in Akure from July 4 to 5, 2008.
A statement from the Army Headquarters in Abuja yesterday said the four affected officers have been compulsorily retired on administrative grounds.
According to the statement by the Director, Army Public Relations, Chris Olukolade, the Army Council noted that the affected officers did not steal the money in controversy but said they “misapplied” the funds in that they paid to soldiers of 72 Bn Makurdi the money meant for 312 Artillery Regiment Akure.
Also in the statement, the Army announced the promotion of 9,658 soldiers and officers to different positions.
