Court rules on Andy Uba’s suit today – The Guardian

November 13, 2009 by Bunmi Awolusi

Dr. Andy Uba, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2007 election in Anambra State, will today know his fate as the Appeal Court rules on his bid to claim victory and mandate in the election which the Supreme Court nullified.

Uba is asking the appellate court to pronounce him successor of Governor Peter Obi, whose tenure expires on March 17, next year.

He is relying on the strength of the Certificate of Return issued to him by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as winner of the election held in Anambra State in 2007 in his application to the appellate court.

The lower court had earlier declared his election ‘intact,’ even though he was removed as governor after 17 days in office following the ruling of the Supreme Court that the election which he won ought not to have held as there was no vacancy in the Anambra Government House.
