November 10, 2009 by Bunmi Awolusi
Talk’s began yesterday on the row between the Deji of Akure, Oba Adesina Adepoju and the city’s kingmakers who are pushing for his removal.
The government of Ondo State stepped into the controversy even as the 21 high chiefs and 17 kingmakers said they would shun the palace until Oba Adepoju is dethroned.
The monarch, who ascended the throne in 2005, has been accused of violating the tradition and customs of Akure by walking out on the kingmakers and high chiefs at a meeting convened to resolve some allegations against him.
Addressing reporters in Akure, Chief Bolanle Adedipe, the Elemo, said the Council of Chiefs had resolved to shun the palace, pending the resolution of the matter.
Adedipe said the council had written the monarch on several occasions to mend his ways but he remained adamant.
