Developed Countries Challenged On Climate Change – Daily Independent

October 16, 2009 by Bunmi Awolusi

Apprehension, much more than enthusiasm, will accompany delegates to the December 2009 United Nations conference on climate change, going by the signals at the Global Editors’ Forum which ended on Sunday in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The world is looking up to the United States to lift the gloom by subscribing to the climate change initiative, as fears were expressed that unless America hooks up to it, efforts are likely to be in vain to check the deteriorating climate conditions.

The UN Summit will also hold in Copenhagen.

The U.S. is said to be the single largest culprit, but is also a financial power house whose co-operation would not only stem further deterioration, but give impetus for compliance by other countries.

Hope rose when a Bill in that direction passed through the U.S. House of Representatives recently, and is now awaiting the endorsement of the Senate – a development generating fervent prayers for success.
