Disquiet among lawyers over Yar’Adua’s future – The Nation
December 9, 2009 by Bunmi Awolusi
More shots were fired yesterday in the verbal battle over the President’s future.
The Body of Attorneys-General rose from its meeting in Jos, Plateau State, condemning the Nigerian Bar Association’s (NBA’s) call for the resignation of President Umaru Yar’Adua.
The body, comprising the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice and all states Attorneys-General and Commissioners for Justice, said as the official leader of the Bar, it dissociates itself from NBA President Rotimi Akeredolu’s call for the President to throw in the towel.
But Akeredolu told The Nation last night that NBA stands by its statement, adding: “That is their opinion, but it’s a shame that that they will be hoodwinked by the views of Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Michael Aondoakaa (SAN).”
