DPR Doesn’t Know Nigeria’s Oil Output -NEITI – Daily Independent

September 8, 2009 by Bunmi Awolusi

The Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) reiterated on Monday that the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) does not measure oil output, regardless of claims by Abuja that production has now risen to 1.7 million barrels per day (bpd).

Federal lawmakers had made the same point on August 31, published in Daily Independent.

An audit report on the oil industry for 2005 by the NEITI said the DPR relies only on terminal receipts to measure production, which it put at 917.7 million barrels for that year, or 2.5 million bpd.

NEITI Media Officer, Jide Arowosaiye, disclosed in a statement that total crude lifted in 2005 was 916.9 million barrels.

DPR is the only reliable organisation that can tell Nigerians the amount of crude oil lifted, because we Nigerians know that DPR is every where, we rely on what ever figure they give, it is their statutory function and DPR is doing it well. More effort DPR we salute your functions
