EFCC to Rhodes-Vivour: Quit Bode George’s case – The Nation
November 17, 2009 by Bunmi Awolusi
Did a Justice of the Court of Appeal, Lagos, Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour, interfere with the trial of jailed former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Bode George before Mr Justice Olubunmi Oyewole of the Ikeja High Court?
This is the issue the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is praying the Appeal Court President, Justice Umaru Abdullahi, to look into. The hearing begins in George’s bail application on Thursday.
Justice Rhodes-Vivour is a member of the panel that will hear the application, which was rejected by Justice Oyewole last Monday.
The Justice said last night that he was aware of EFCC’s complaint, adding that he would wait to see what happens in court when George’s application comes up for hearing.
Justice Oyewole jailed George and five others for 30 months on October 26 for contracts splitting, abuse of office and disobeying lawful authority while serving on the board of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) between 2001 and 2003. The others are: Aminu Dabo, O. Adeboye, Abdullahi Tafida, Zanna Maideribe and Sule Aliyu.
