Ekiti Teaching Hospital theatre, labour room collapse – The Nation
November 17, 2009 by Bunmi Awolusi
It has been a harrowing experience for expectant women and patients needing surgeries in Ado-Ekiti and its environs as the labour room and the temporary theatre of the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) have collapsed.
The development has led to the withdrawal of services by the doctors and nurses since last Thursday.
They are protesting non-availability of equipment and the deplorable condition of the temporary theatre being used following the rehabilitation of the main facility.
The hospital’s branch of Medical Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) pasted a notice, conveying the immediate withdrawal of its members’ services since Thursday.
The nurses at the theatre and labour room have also withdrawn their services. Patients and women in labour are being turned back from the hospital.
Since the shutdown of the theatre and labour room, patients are being referred to health institutions like the Federal Medical Centre, Ido-Ekiti; Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTH) and private hospitals in Ado-Ekiti, Ikere-Ekiti and Akure, the Ondo State capital.
