The Election Petitions Tribunal hearing the dispute arising from the April 25 governorship rerun election in Ekiti State will today decide whether or not to admit an Action Congress (AC) membership card sought to be tendered by a defence witness.
Omodan Afolabi, the fifth witness to be called by the first respondent, Governor Segun Oni, claimed that he served as an AC polling agent in Ipoti Ward and came to testify in Oni’s favour.
It was at the continuation of the hearing of the petition filed by Action Congress (AC) governorship candidate Dr. Kayode Fayemi against Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP’s) Oni.
Fayemi is challenging Oni’s declaration as winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The governor’s witness’ bid to tender the AC membership card as exhibit sparked arguments among lawyers to the petitioners and the respondents.
Afolabi had earlier adopted his witness statement on oath while being led in examination-in-chief by Oni’s counsel, Adebayo Adenipekun (SAN).
