Enahoro, others meet on Yar’Adua – Tribune

January 5, 2010 by Bunmi Awolusi

Elder statesman, Chief Anthony Enahoro, is among the leading politicians and activists in the country, already holding consultations on how to intervene in the constitutional crisis created by the continued absence of President Umaru Yar’Adua without an acting president.

Yar’Adua has been out of the country for about 42 days and he is thought to be at a Saudi Arabian hospital receiving treatment for inflamation of the outer membrane of his heart, medically referred to as pericarditis, without properly empowering the vice-president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, to function in acting capacity.

The National Democratic Movement, (NDM), at its last plenary in Abuja had advised the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) and the Federal Government to respect the provisions of the constitution on the matter to avoid a situation where the country would be thrown into a full blown political crisis.

Also, a group of 100 lawyers, at a conference last week, issued an ultimatum to the effect that President Yar’Adua must return by January 31 or vice-president Jonathan be allowed to act for him to avoid their wrath.
