Embattled Vice – Chancellor of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Professor Ikechukwu Chidobem, has been sacked from office, following violent demonstration by the students of the institution.
Professor Chidi Ugwu, who until the appointment, was the Director of Academic Planning of the institution, was named as the acting vice chancellor of the university.
The Governing Council of ESUT which announced the appointment on Thursday stated that the state governor and visitor to the university, Mr. Sullivan Chime, had approved the appointment which took immediate effect.
On the ongoing strike action embarked upon by the staff of the institution, the governing council regretted that it had impacted negatively on the level of internally generated revenue, with which the state government’s subvention was supplemented to address regular payment of workers’ salaries.
