Ex-militants protest in Warri – Demand jobs – Tribune

Operations of Chevron Nigeria Limited, Warri, was, on Monday, disrupted for many hours by ex-militants, who were demanding for employment and other human development programmes.

Hundreds of the placard-carrying former militants, under the auspices of the Niger Delta Welfare Committee (NDWC), stormed the office of the multinational company, located on the NPA Effu-run expressway and restricted movement in and outside the premises.

A senior staff member of Chevron, Mr. Tony Emegeari of the Public Affairs Department, the Nigerian Tribune gathered, addressed the representatives of the protesting ex-militants, while their men stayed outside the gate, chanting war songs.

The protest almost turned violent when one of the protesters used his vehicle to block the entrance of the company, but for the maturity exhibited by a deputy superintendent of police, Eluha Clever, who placated the ex-militants to allow free movement in and out of the premises.
