November 13, 2009 by Bunmi Awolusi
With 974 votes against, 781 for and 34 voids, Reverend (Dr.) Wilson Badejo was Wednesday ousted as the General Overseer of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria.
Badejo has been in the saddle for 10 years and on three consecutive terms, having been elected in 1999 to succeed Rev. G. O. Farounbi.
The voting took place at the 54th annual national convention of the church at Ajebo, Ogun State.
Meanwhile, Badejo, who is still presiding at the convention, has said with the structures on ground, membership of the church would jump to over one million in Lagos in the next five years.
He said this in a welcome address to participants at the convention on Sunday.
At the convention were leading monarchs, including the Ooni Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade and the Olu of Warri, Ogiamen Atunwase II.
Ooni, who was accompanied by 17traditional rulers, declared himself a full member of the church. He also declared that all the monarchs who accompanied him would also be members henceforth.
