Gabon, Congo, Kenya ahead of Nigeria in Growth Index – The Nation

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) yesterday released its yearly Human Development Index (HDI), with Nigeria ranked 158.

Gabon, Congo, Kenya and Sudan are ahead of Nigeria.

Norway took the first position.

About 182 countries were assessed using criteria, such as life expectancy, literacy, school enrolment and gross domestic product (GDP).

Nations were ranked in four categories – very high human development, high human development, medium human development and low human development.

Kenya, Sudan, Uganda, Gabon, Congo, Tunisia, Algeria, Botswana, South Africa and Morocco were listed in the medium human development category.

Most African nations but two made the low human development category.

Nigeria was ranked 167 in terms of life expectancy at birth, 112th in adult literacy, 150 in combined gross enrolment ratio and 141 in GDP.
