George, Ogunlewe, Ogwu named in govt homes grab – The Nation

Jailed former Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) chairman Olabode George was yesterday named as one of the “notable Nigerians” who bought Federal Government houses without following due process.
George, Deputy National chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is serving a jail term for fraud perpetrated during his tenure at the NPA.
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Housing and Urban Development, Senator Ikechukwu Obiorah, during a one-day public hearing on the sale of Federal Government houses under the Chief Olusegun Obansanjo administration, named the beneficiaries of the bazaar who did not bid for the houses.
They include the former Minister of Works, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs and now Nigeria’s Permanent Representative at the United Nations (UN), Prof Joy Ogwu, former Chief of Army Staff General Owoeye Azazi, former Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Ibrahim Ogohi, Vice Admiral I.I. Ibrahim (rtd), Vice Admiral B. Adeleke (rtd), Gbemisola Adebo, O. O. Olakunri and Amb Baiye Onigbelu.
They bought houses ranging from fully detached buildings to blocks of eight flats across the country, Obiorah said.
