Govt okays N179.13b for projects in N’Delta, others – The Guardian

As part of the post amnesty programme, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) yesterday approved N179.13 billion for the execution of 44 projects in nine states in the Niger Delta region.
And contrary to a recent report that the United Nations (UN) will not be part of the amnesty deal for Niger Delta militants, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) yesterday, in a statement, said the global body was involved in the peace process initiated by the Federal Government.
The FEC also approved contracts worth N14.9 billion for the development of the newly established Federal Oil and Gas Polytechnic in Bayelsa State and another N5.72 billion for upgrading of the Petroleum Technology Institute, Effurum, Delta State.
The Niger Delta projects involve the construction of bridges, roads, drainages, hospitals and acquisition of hospital equipment, provision of potable waters, educational facilities and environmental impact assessment programmes.
