Kutigi blames govs for judiciary workers’ strike – The Guardian

November 16, 2009 by Bunmi Awolusi

Governor in the country have been blamed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (NJC), Idris Legbo Kutigi, for the on-going strike by judiciary workers.

He said their failure to implement the recommendations of the National Judicial Council (NJC) was responsible for the current crisis.

Kutigi, who spoke with reporters shortly after the commissioning of the Ibadan Bar Centre built by legal luminary, Chief Afe Babalola (SAN), said the judiciary had no money to pay the enhanced package to members of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), which informed the decision by the NJC to pass the recommendations to the governors.

Kutigi lamented the protracted strike by the judiciary workers, which he said has almost become an annual ritual, saying there was nothing the judicial arm of government could do to salvage the situation.
