The residents of Bada community in Oshodi have been rendered homeless following the demolition of their houses by officials of the Lagos State Physical Planning Development Authority, (LASSPPDA).
Officials of the agency were seen as early as 8.00pm on Tuesday marking some houses for demolition.
As at 12noon on Tuesday, residents were seen hurriedly evacuating their children, aged parents and household items.
Officials of the agency accompanied by heavily armed policemen cordoned off the community and with their sledged hammers and other equipment, pulling down the houses.
The demolition, according to a senior official of the agency, followed the death of a 59-year-old woman, Rita Imunnakwe, who died on Friday, after a wall from the building beside her house at 4 Bada Street fell on her.
Mrs. Imunnakwe, a widow and a mother of two boys, until her death was a typist at the Ministry of Establishment in Lagos. She was said to have just finished her supper and had gone outside her house to receive fresh air when the wall fell. She had lived in the house for more than twenty years.
The officials of the agency said they are taking prompt action to prevent more building in the area from collapsing.
