MAN takes gas row to House – The Nation
November 10, 2009 by Bunmi Awolusi
Manufacturers warned yesterday that more jobs were heading for the guillotine – no thanks to the suspension of gas supply to over 30 companies by a major gas supplier.
The Director-General of Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Mr. Jide Mike, raised the alarm when he led a 25-man team of the association to solicit the intervention of the House of Representatives in the dispute between MAN and Gaslink Nigeria Limited, a Lagos gas company.
Mike told the House Committee on Industry that Gaslink unilaterally increased gas price from N24.21 to N59.66 on the excuse that the price of Low Pour Fuel Oil (LPFO) in the international market went up.
He said Gaslink also claimed that gas price should also be benchmarked on the price of LPFO.
The DG said that the Gaslink price was “totally unacceptable”.
He said Gaslink had already cut off supply to over 30 companies in Lagos and it is planning to disconnect more industries.
