Nigeria’s moves to achieve Education for All (EFA) by the year 20-20-20 got a boost yesterday when textbooks for basic education worth over N4.2 billion were made available for distribution to primary four pupils and Junior Secondary Schools nationwide.
The official presentation was performed by the wife of the President, Hajia Turai Yar’Adua, at a colourful ceremony at the Model Primary School, Maitama, Abuja.
Turai, while presenting the books to some of the pupils, lauded the exercise, describing it as novel, since it would be the first time such a massive distribution of instructional materials to schools would be taking place in the history of this country.
Minister of State for Education, Hajia Aisha Jubril Dukku, noted that the instructional materials were procured with the balance of the fund for the home-grown school feeding programme, which has been cancelled by the government.
