No Decision Yet on Yar’Adua’s Second Term, Says PDP – Thisday

November 22, 2009 by tim

President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are still making consultations across the country on whether or not the president should contest for a second term in 2011, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Prof Ahmed Rufai Alkali, has said.

Speaking in Kaduna yesterday, Alkali, at the launch of a book written on Kaduna State by the Nigerian Defence Academy, said the party has not made up its mind on whether to throw the contest for presidency open to all interested aspirants.

He said Yar’Adua was also yet to formally declare his intention to go for a second term in 2011, because he was presently occupied by the need to render quality service to Nigerians.

Alkali, who spoke at the launch of a book written on Kaduna state by the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), said the president is “concerned and working assiduously for the interest of Nigeria and Nigerians and there is still time for him to declare for 2011.”

He said there is no difference of opinion within the party as to whether to throw open the 2011 presidential contest or to give President Yar’Adua an automatic ticket.
