Five employees of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, including three senior lecturers, have petitioned the police over alleged threat to their lives.

They are Academic Union of Universities (ASUU) chairman, OAU branch, Dr. Ife Adewumi; former National Chairman of ASUU, Dr. Dipo Fashina; Treasuer, Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Union (SSANU), OAU branch, Mr. M.A. Owolabi; member, SSANU, OAU branch, Mr. A.O. Oketunde and Treasurer, ASUU, OAU branch, Miss Kenny Ajila.

Adewumi petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IG) Mike Okiro on behalf of the others, alleging a threat to their lives by the university authorities.

They alleged that they received a text message on July 3, warning them to stop pursuing contributory pension for members of staff.

The text, they said, reads: “You are warned to stop pursuing contributory pension stoppage and refund immediately, or else the management will deal with you beyond your expectation.”
