Ogun PDP crisis deepens, Bankole’s camp, executive trade blames – The Guardian

December 3, 2009 by Bunmi Awolusi

The leadership of the Ogun State People’s Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday accused the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole of being a major cause of the protracted crisis within the party.

At a press conference in Abeokuta, the party said the Speaker should re-trace its steps or face suspension. Bankole drew the anger of the party due to a statement credited to him at the weekend to the effect that the PDP executive council has to be “re-arranged” in the interest of unity.

The chairman of the Party’s Elder Council, Chief Sule Onabiyi, in a statement on Tuesday, agreed with Bankole, insisting that it was the only means to end the crisis which has engulfed the party since last year.

But the party’s chairman in the state, Joju Fadairo while addressing journalists at the PDP secretariat stated that the “Speaker’s recent actions and attacks on the state leadership of the party amount to superlative disregard for constituted authority and classical violation of the party’s constitution.”
