PDP to spend $500m for PDP 2011 polls, ANPP alleges – Daily Trust

The All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) yesterday in Abuja accused the PDP-led federal government of obtaining $500m loans mostly to prosecute the forthcoming 2011 general elections.
The party said that the loan facility is a means of returning Nigeria back to the era of indebtedness and condemned National Assembly, also controlled by the PDP, for approving the loan facility.
National Publicity Secretary of the party Emma Eneukwu said the news of the loan must have come to discerning Nigerians as a shocker, especially when viewed from the backdrop of the fact that just three years ago, “this same party rolled out the drums to celebrate what it said was a major feat in pulling Nigeria out of the club of debtor nations in the world.”
Eneukwu said the claim by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) that the $500 million World Bank loan would be applied to address infrastructure, power, transport, textile and employment needs of the country is deceitful as a larger percentage of the said loan will be set aside for the funding of election expenses of PDP candidates in 2011.
