Relations of ADC plane crash victims groan – The Nation

November 3, 2009 by Bunmi Awolusi

Three years after their breadwinners died in the 2006 ADC plane crash, widows of some of the victims of the crash have urged the Federal Government to facilitate the payment of compensation.

They said each of them is entitled to $100, 000.

The widows who spoke with The Nation through their representative, Mrs Mojisola Munirat Maciver, expressed their disgust at the delay in the payment of compensation.

Her husband, the late Mr. Abdurazaq Olatunji Maciver, died in the crash.

She said: “We the women have met and we have decided to let the government know our grouse about the compensation that the ADC Airline is supposed to pay the families of the deceased in the plane crash that occurred while our families were on board their aircraft. The incident was three years last Thursday, October 29, 2009.

“It happened on October 29, 2006. We lost about 105 lives, including our breadwinners, in the ADC plane crash at Abuja. Up till date, the airline has not paid the about 80 widows the compensation of $100, 000; rather, they are negotiating. And all of us are not in agreement with them, even though some people collected part-payment, but we have refused to collect because the Federal Government said they should pay $100, 000 to each family.”

Mrs. Maciver said the plea became imperative because in spite of the intervention of the Federal Government and other relevant bodies, nothing has changed.
