Reps angry over MDG projects, threaten 2010 allocations – The Guardian
November 6, 2009 by Bunmi Awolusi
The House of Representatives yesterday resolved that no financial allocation would be made to ministries and parastatals in the 2010 budget if they failed to execute the projects in the 2009 appropriation.
It summoned the Accountant-General of the Federation, Alhaji Ibrahim Dankwabo, over the performance of the 2009 budget and rejected the failed state tag on Nigeria.
And in a reaction to the Senate’s criticisms of the poor implementation of the budget, the presidency said yesterday that the Upper House’s comments were in good faith.
Moving a motion on the non-implementation of the 2008/2009 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) quick win projects, Dino Melaye (Kogi State), noted that the MDGs were global projects budgeted for by the parliament. He told the House that the projects were part of the conditions for the debt relief granted Nigeria under the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo and should not be toyed with.
