Soyinka: Why I Support Obama Not Coming to Nigeria – ThisDay

May 22, 2009 by tim

Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has condemned the decaying state of affairs in the country and the dwindling status of Nigeria in the international community.

Speaking at an art exhibition at the Italian Embassy, Abuja yesterday, Soyinka said United States President Barack Obama’s decision to visit Ghana ahead of Nigeria in his first trip to Africa is a wise decision.
He said he does not subscribe to the suggestion that President Obama should rather visit Nigeria instead of Ghana, adding that the Nigerian government does not merit such honour.

in my annoyance i forgot to ask , can someone please ask the white headed man , who in this case i share a dispassion for with an elder states man who has shown he is human and can sometimes fall prey to the people around him, but who improved the lives of many Nigerian from the period to 1999 to handover date. an intelligent soldier and seasoned politician and i tip my hat to him any day Gen Olusegun Obasanjo. if anyone has any doubt pls look at nigeria and your status of living especially if you are a government worker academic. truthfully 3/4 of them would never have owned cars.

what solution can he give to any problem in Nigeria and if he thinks he is that respected and liked, he should run for office , just governorship in Ogun state, lets see how many people would contribute to his course. he may not even win in his home town.

as someone intelligent said alot of countries visited by obama have corruption issues , human right issues i mean even america has human right issues its called discrimination btw the whites and all other racial groups, so what are we talking about , less people get raped, shot , bullied in school etc in nigeria than in England and America so what are we talking about.can someone pls tell me why it is so important that Obama visit us , when his policy on cleaner enegy would leave us having no one to sell our vast volume of crude to . no one is talking about that , Obama bless his soul doesn't need to recognise us if he doesn't want to who cares, its only going to cost us more money if he visits in the form of celebrations and dinner parties and all.
If he visits later well his welcome and if not its all good, if the late pope could come twice and Queen Elizabeth could he'll follow when ready.

i wonder why that old fart would not just shut his trap, he is part of a generation that has wined and dined with the same idiots that have ruined this country.
he is also guity of all he condems, a cult leader and pls no one shouls argue blindly and say oh its a confraternity of brothers , what have they done . have they donated to homeless children or given scholarships. he may think himself as an elderstates man but was he not also bribed back in the day with road safety commission and then handed it to a fellow pirate Olu Agunloye. They embezzled money and it was all covered up , and today it is another parastatal that just costs Nigerians millions of naira.
Nigerians should please grow up and stop allowing worthless individuals who are not adding any value to our lives be heard on national print or media

Wole Soyinka what a joke ; but as the saying goes "a nation is a reflection of its leaders"
