States yet to execute N48b debt-relief projects – The Guardian

November 10, 2009 by Bunmi Awolusi

A Performance assessment report has rated most states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) poor in the execution of projects for which they received funding from the debt relief granted Nigeria by the Paris and London Clubs.

Known as Conditional Grants Scheme (CGS), about N48.8 billion of the funds have so far been disbursed to 34 states and the FCT to execute projects in health, water and sanitation, and youth empowerment.

But a report from the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) said the states have not handled the projects and funds well.

The report came a few days after the two chambers of the National Assembly last week, flayed the Executive arm of government its execution of the 2009 budget and implementation of the 2008/2009 MDGs.
